How Jim found the right support to stay active at home
After decades spent keeping busy first as an electrical supervisor for major shopping centers and later as a government training consultant.
Jim was used to taking charge and staying active. But as the years went on, Jim and his wife Val recognised that living safely and
comfortably in their Moreton Bay home meant finding someone who could provide them with a bit of extra support.
Finding the right local support
Before connecting with Holistic Horizons, Jim and Val found daily household tasks becoming harder to manage. Val was struggling to keep up with the thorough cleaning she takes pride in, and meal preparation was becoming more challenging. While other agencies reached out, Jim felt strongly about finding a local team.
"I wanted someone local," Jim shares. "How can someone who isn’t local really understand what you want? If we don’t look after our own local businesses, there’s nobody there to support the local community."
The turning point came after meeting Care Manager Kate at a local seniors' expo. Kate visited their home to listen to their exact needs and walk them through how Holistic Horizons could help.
Why Jim & Val chose Holistic Horizons
-
It was a genuine, local connection
Kate took the time to sit down, listen properly, and thoroughly explain their options without any fuss. Jim gave Kate a clear list of what they needed, and her straightforward, confident response immediately put them at ease.
-
The follow-through & quality care
Jim called Kate back that very afternoon to get the paperwork started. From their regular cleaner Danielle, who meticulously follows Val’s cleaning list while stopping for a friendly chat, to meal coordination through Sunshine Coast providers, Holistic Horizons matched their promises with real action.
-
Real peace of mind & community
Having a team just a phone call away gives Jim complete confidence to navigate ongoing health challenges and stay active in the community.
What life looks like today
With reliable in-home support taking care of the heavy lifting, Jim and Val have more time to focus on what matters most to them and that’s staying healthy, enjoying their garden, and looking forward to upcoming group activities and community connections.
Jim's advice to anyone considering aged care support?
"Don’t wait until you desperately need support... Get in and do something. Contact Kate and have a talk to her. Make a list of what you want, sit down for a proper conversation, and look after yourself for a change."
